We just got back from spring break – and we went on another Disney cruise. As always, it was fantastic. Of course I loved dressing up every night too! I’m sure you are all shocked. 😉
When I spotted this off-the-shoulder dress at Banana, I fell in love. It stays in place, which is key with an off-the-shoulder. It didn’t rise up once and I didn’t have to mess with it at all. With the hidden inside zipper, it does a great job of accentuating the waist line. Overall, it is such a fun dress! Like always, Banana had it on sale, so I got it for 50% off – score!
And here’s my not-so-little princess with the real princess, Cinderella. We had fun taking our pictures with all of the characters!
On the girl – Lilly Pulitzer (last season on super sale)
No, I just didn’t go on vacation…this was taken towards the end of last summer. I grabbed this awesome Mara Hoffman one piece on super sale via Gilt. I have to admit with all of the criss crosses, I had to go back to the model picture to see how to wear it properly – ha!
I’ve done a few posts over the years (here and here) talking about how great one piece suits have become! I’m so glad there are so many options now for those of us who like the additional coverage. Even though, I’ve seen a few one pieces that have less fabric that a two piece 🙂 When I’m searching for a one piece, I like fun colors, patterns, intricate backs or front designs, full seat coverage, etc. If you try on swim suits at the store and you’re questioning how it looks on you, I’d suggest buying it and trying it on at home. The lighting in some dressing rooms is horrible and unflattering! I know I don’t wear a swimsuit in fluorescent lighting!
I pinned a few awesome one piece options that are available right now at Nordstrom. Why did I just choose Nordstrom? Because they have free shipping and free returns! I may have bought one of these for our upcoming cruise…can you guess which one?
I know I’ve been a little MIA, but we were on a much needed family vacation in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. It’s crazy to think my family and I have been going there since 2000. 16 years?! Can that even be possible? My daughter’s first trek was when she was only four months old (yes, we were the crazy parents to take our four-month old on a plane…we lived in Illinois then). So mix being in the south and Lilly Pulitzer (and Jack Rogers)…you have a great vacation outfit. And not to mention super comfortable.
I typically don’t wear white unless I have a spray tan, which you can tell here that I definitely have one. I have a love-hate relationship with shorts, so same goes for wearing those unless my legs have some color. But the print on these and the fabric made them a must have in my book. Elastic waist…yes please! And the scallop edges are such a fun detail. The tube top stays in place, so I was never fidgeting with it at all…even on the windy Eco Dolphin tour (isn’t my son such a cutie patootie?!).
Top – Lilly Pulitzer Rilo Tube; Shorts – Lilly Pulitzer Dahlia in Shimmy Shimmy; Sunnies – Louis Vuitton (old); Sandals – Jack Rodgers Lauren (on sale!); Purse – kate spade (old); Tory Burch FitBit holder (on sale in silver!)
Another day. Another maxi. I just can’t help myself! This Adelyn Rae maxi encompasses what I love – color, beautiful print, cute details, great price point. It’s just the perfect maxi for a summer dinner out. And it looks so good with my spray tan!
I know I wrote about these shoes the other day and they aren’t online, but they are my absolute favorite as of late! Not only that, but my Henri Bendel bracelets, too. They really go with everything!
I just also wanted to thank my husband for a wonderful time in Highlands, NC. If you’ve never been there before, you should! It’s such a wonderful little mountain community. The inn where we stay was recently purchased by Old Edwards Hospitality, which means you have access to all of their amenities now. So we made the quick drive to town every morning to workout in their fitness center. The staff here are the nicest people – and the breakfast and nightly appetizers (with free wine!) are amazing. We can’t recommend the Half-Mile Farm enough!
I scored at the Annie Griffin Warehouse Sale a while back. And it was fitting that I got the “Lindsey” dress with my coworker Lindsey. It was meant to be 🙂
I remember trying this dress on at Poppy’s in the spring, but the price tag definitely jumped out at me. Waiting paid off because I scored this beauty for $83! Uh…yes please!
I thought this was a perfect dress for my annual beach trip to Hilton Head Island! The colors just seem so summery and beachy to me. Even though I love to dress up, I loved this trip for the fact I probably put a full face of makeup on only twice. We ate so much at the house we rented (thanks to my mom, aunt, and uncle for doing most of the cooking!).
And look – I could even jump in this dress! I love being silly with my kiddos, and I think they love it, too ❤
For spring break, we ventured on the high seas on the Disney Magic. This was our fourth Disney cruise, so we knew the drill. But I’m sure you can imagine what I love doing most on the cruise? Dressing up each night for dinner! If y’all haven’t noticed if you have followed by blog, I have an obsession with dresses (say it isn’t so!). Cruises are the perfect opportunity to get gussied up.
I’d thought I would put this post together because my other run down of outfits from the last cruises is my number one post of all time. Crazy! So here we go!
First night was cruise casual. It happened to also be Easter Sunday, so I thought this dress was a little Easter mixed with a little Caribbean.
Dress – Lilly Pulitzer (last season); Shoes – Charles by Charles David (old); Bracelet – Henri Bendel; Watch – Rolex; Purse – Louis Vuitton
The second night was formal night. I was so excited to wear this dress again. I first wore it in January to my work’s annual party. But this time was a whole separate look – no tights, no pumps, no necklace, and hair pulled back. It was so interesting seeing what some people thought “formal night” really was. But to each his/her own when it comes to fashion. But I’m pretty sure cargo khaki shorts and a polo shirt aren’t in the category of formal 🙂 Oh…and if you watched the RHOBH reunion show, this is the dress Kim Richards had on!
Dress – Ted Baker Jineen; Bracelets – Henri Bendel; Shoes – Ash (last season); Earrings – via Stitch Fix
On the girl – Dress by Ruby Rox at Von Maur
The next night was cruise casual again, and I couldn’t wait to wear this new Ted Baker Distinguishing Rose dress. I love everything about this dress, especially the tulip hem. It’s all in the details!
Dress – Ted Baker Distinguishing Rose; Bracelet – C. Wonder; Shoes – Charles by Charles David
I’ve had this beauty since the end of last season. I got it on super sale at the kate spade outlet store. I saw it on a blogger last year and fell in love. But, I wasn’t in love with the price tag. Good things come to those who wait! Snatched it up as I knew it would be perfect for cruising!
Dress – kate spade (last season); Bracelet – Spartina; Shoes – yep! Charles by Charles David again!
We dined in the adult-only restaurant, Palo. If you go on a Disney cruise, you must eat here. YOU MUST. (Or if you are on the Dream or Fantasy, here AND Remy’s!) It’s a little fancier, and I had yet another dress that was begging to be worn in my closet. I love the red and pink combo here!
This next night was actually semi-formal night. Well, this wasn’t what I had planned to wear, but it worked out perfectly. I love a good maxi and this one is no exception. I knew when Anthro came out with this beauty it had to be mine (insert villainous laugh here!).
Dress – Anthropologie SB by Sachin and Babi Marisol Maxi Dress; Bracelet – C. Wonder; Shoes – you guessed it…Charles by Charles David
On the girl – dress from Kohl’s IZ Amy Byer
So this pretty much sums up my evening attire. I’m saving my day outfits for separate posts, so you’ll have to come back and visit – or follow the blog! If you noticed, I wore my nude color Charles by Charles David wedges with about 75% of my dresses. I LOVE THESE SHOES! They are from a couple of season ago and need to be replaced, but I haven’t found the perfect pair yet. The leather is so scuffed at the front of the toe…I must drag my toes when I walk sometimes and not realize it.
Just remember when you are trying to figure out what to pack for a cruise: it’s really wear what you want to wear. Although in Palo or Remy, they are pretty strict (I believe guys need a jacket and women a dress, skirt or suit). It’s all about having fun! And my fun was getting dressed up!
I have Spring Break on the brain I guess, based on my post yesterday. One of the main items of clothing I love to take – maxi dresses. Why? They are so versatile! Dress them up. Dress them down. Wear them during the day and at night for dinner. It’s a win win, especially if you have limited room in your suitcase.
These are the latest ones at Anthropologie that I am swooning over right now. Why is it every dress I want is so freakin’ expensive?! Ugh. Me and my stupid expensive taste. I will be watching these bad boys like a hawk for them to go on sale. Or I’ll use a Super Bowl analogy of watching those dresses like Butler watched that ball go right into his hands! (Go Pats!) So here are some of my favorite maxis:
It’s not very often that I pay full price for anything at Anthropologie. Such beautiful clothes, but the price tags are usually more than I want to pay. BUT, when I saw this dress, I had to make an exception.
It has polka dots. (It comes in more colors, too!)
Not too low cut neck line.
Little button details.
Yep. I had to give in and pay full price. It’s such a great summer dress. Here I dressed it down for a casual dinner on vacation, but you could easily put on some dressier wedges. And I have to say, I love that a bra works under it, too, even with the cute cutout back detail.
This would also be a great time to say how much I love my Sam Edelman Gigi sandals. I have them in these black patent and in brown. They go with everything and hold up so well. I wore my brown ones a ton last year. These black ones replaced another pair of black Banana Republic sandals that fell apart after one year (urgh!).
Linking up with The Pleated Poppy.
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with shorts for the past few years. There are so many cute styles, I’ve tried to love more than hate lately.
My thighs have always been muscular. So, to embrace my muscles, I’ve had to learn how to shop for the right type of shorts. It’s important to feel comfortable in your clothes, right? So I’ve learned that I possibly have to size up to get them to fit properly. Because I do not want to look like some of those teenagers I see at the mall with teeny tiny shorts that are only 1 cm longer than their underwear…or are so tight it looks like their circulation is about ready to be cut off!
And I have to admit, I love shorts when I have a (fake) tan on my legs. For some reason a tan just makes them look better – at least to me anyway 🙂 So I brought these cute navy shorts with me on vacation. Threw them on for a day of shopping with my momma.
Top, Shorts, Belt – Banana Republic; Bracelets – Michael Kors and Spartina; Sunnies – Louis Vuitton; Sandals – Sam Edelman
The last couple of years, I’ve added a couple of Lily Pulitzer pieces to my wardrobe. Now, some of the prints are not quite my style…but there are just some adorable fabrics lately. Take for instance, this adorable print!
I went in my first Lily Pulitzer store in Key West and this dress just jumped out at me. So of course when I tried it on, I knew it had to come home with me. The cut, the length, the print were perfect. And I had a trip to Hilton Head where I knew I could wear it. Lily is perfect for the beach!
I think I need to plan another beach trip just so I can wear this dress again soon. 🙂
Dress – Lily Pulizer; Shoes – Charles by Charles David; Earrings – The Limited; Bracelets – Coach and Stella & Dot; Watch – Rolex
Last weekend, we visited Key West, Florida, for the first time. It’s a beautiful little beach town where you can relax or party hard. You can decide. Me, I chose the relaxing by the beach and pool with the occasional drink in hand and eating the fantastic food.
Now, I have to say I was probably THE most dressed up person on the entire island. But, I really don’t care. I love to dress up, so dress up I did. I didn’t do glitz and glam, but in this super casual place, I felt like I was definitely over dressed. It was fun though, dressing up and also enjoying my spray tan 🙂
If I go back there again, I will definitely pack differently. If I wear dresses at night, I will make sure I can wear flat sandals or flip flops. Cabs aren’t cheap – going just shy of 2 miles was about $12. I know…crazy! One night I did walk back from dinner in 4 inch platforms. Let’s just say by the time I got back to the hotel, my feet were very angry with me.
But…let’s get to the clothes!
Can you believe this is my first ever maxi skirt?! It is so comfortable and perfect to travel in. The weather was windy, cloudy, and a little cooler when we got there. But as soon as the sun came out, the scarf got ditched quickly.
So, it was a little cool with the breeze, so I definitely have a pashmina hidden in that purse. But I bought this dress at Poppy’s in Atlanta at a trunk show. It is an amazing fabric that packed very well. The wrinkles just fell out. If you follow this blog at all, y’all know I love stripes…and this color combination is one of my favs.
The hubs actually bought me this Hale Bob dress at the end of last summer off of Rue La La. So I guess it was a good to wear it on his birthday trip. Truthfully, I didn’t know how much I liked the funky print until I tried it on…and having a tan helps!
Dress – Hale Bob; Bracelet – Stella & Dot; Sandals – Charles by Charles David
We went out to the Westin on Sunset Key one night for dinner at Latitudes. Let’s just say it was the most gorgeous sunset dinner view I have ever seen. AND the food was amazing. I got this dress at the Juicy Couture store in Chicago last summer on super sale. Fun and vibrant for a tropical vacay! And since we love Disney cruises, it was fun seeing the Wonder pull out of the port.
Dress – Juicy Couture; Sandals – Charles by Charles David; Bracelet – Banana Republic
One of my coworkers and friends had been to Key West a couple of months beforehand and recommended going on a sunset cruise on the Hindu. It was so incredibly peaceful – and the sunset was breathtaking. I knew I was going to walk home after, so I opted for flip flops – thank goodness this maxi was short enough that I wasn’t tripping on it!
Dress – The Impeccable Pig; Flip flops – Henri Bendel; Bracelet – Tory Burch
Have you been to Key West? What did you pack to wear? Did you overpack like I did – as all I wore during the day was a swimsuit!
