First, I want to say that I’m here. I’m just fine. 🙂 My full-time career is managing employee benefit communications for clients, and this is the busiest time of year for me. So my time has to be devoted to my clients and less to my blog. So the next few months, posts will definitely be sporadic. So bear with me (and thank you for caring!).
Labor Day weekend we did get away for a few days to Ft. Walton Beach in Florida. Of course I had purchased a few things online at Lilly’s huge sale, but I went to the store in Mirmar Beach to see what they had left. I picked up this great skirt for about $35. I would much rather throw on a skirt or dress than shorts, so this is perfect for me. Cotton and comfy – so easy to throw on with just a white t-shirt! And look, I can even jump in it, LOL.
The girl got a few things at the sale too, including these super cute shorts and tank top. She loves her Lilly just like her momma! ❤ This shot is something we always try to do at the beach. I think we started it when she was probably 7 or so. I love taking photos like this so you can go back and compare how she’s growing up.
When I’m on vacation, I always like to pack items that I can just throw on and go. This Lilly Pulitzer Gigi Maxi was perfect for just that. Threw it on, added a hat, and voila – off we went. It is machine washable and has adjustable straps…and you can see it is full of color! Lots and lots of bright colors. But that’s one of the reasons I love it. I’m sure if you have followed me at all, you know what I’m going to say next. Yep. I got it on sale when I was in Charleston. 63 big smackers is all! Score!
I ventured into the mirrored sunglasses this summer too. I love these green Ray Bans. I think they are such a fun color!
In the first picture, that is one of our favorite horses to go and visit when we are in Hilton Head. Harley has lived at Lawton Stables for such a long time. If I remember correctly, he is actually a reject Budweiser Clydesdale because his coloring wasn’t what they wanted (crazy, right?!). When we take him carrots, we try to give a few to the ponies out there too, and he can be such a big bully. So we distract him so the ponies can get a few carrots too 🙂 We’ve seen the stables change so much over the years. It’s such a great facility. When my kiddos were little, they loved to go on pony rides. I was so sad when they were too big to get on the ponies. Check it out if you are ever on the island.
When I was in Hilton Head and saw this adorable fringed cover up on sale for $59, I just had to pick it up. It’s such a fun print, and who could resist the fringe?! It’s nice and light weight for those humid and hot days at the beach or pool.
The hubs and I went on a getaway weekend to one of our favorite spots, Highlands, NC. Our favorite spot to stay was purchased by Old Edwards Hospitality and they did a lot of work on it this past winter and spring. The Half-Mile Farm looked just gorgeous, including their updated pool. Two of our favorite parts they didn’t change: gourmet breakfast is included and so are wine and appetizers each night. We like to workout while we are on vacation, and it’s so nice to now have access to the Old Edwards Inn’s workout facility that is in town. It’s only a few minute drive, so no excuse not to use it. Highly recommend this place if you need a little break!
I discovered Jude Connally a few years ago in a local ATL boutique. I instantly fell in love with the fabric. It never wrinkles…and it’s machine washable. Such great pieces for traveling. I was lucky to find this Joy Off-the-Shoulder dress on sale this summer before I headed out to Hilton Head! It was such a great dress for the beach. You can also wear this dress with the sleeves pulled up.
If you wear them up though, be forewarned it makes the dress a lot shorter 🙂 It does look super cute this way too though. It would look super cute with wedges like the model has on, but I opted for an easy Jack Rogers Maci flat since I knew I would be walking around shopping. Can I also brag I got these on sale for almost 50% off?! I may like to shop, but I try and watch the dollar amount ALL the time. I love getting good deals if you haven’t noticed.
In the background, you’ll noticed the Salty Dog macaws they always have at their store in South Beach. These macaws have been there ever since I’ve been going there, which has been since the year 2000. We do a picture in front of these birds every single year. It’s so fun to go back and see how we’ve all changed over the years. But the birds have stayed the same. Ha!
When I saw this jumpsuit on the hanger, I first thought it was a maxi dress. As I was feeling the fabric and pulling it apart, I discovered it was definitely not a maxi! I usually don’t gravitate towards jumpsuits, but I loved this print!
When I tried this on, it felt like I was in the most comfortable pajamas. I knew I wanted to take this to Charleston, so I did.
It was hot that day, and this was the perfect outfit to keep me cool while we walked around town. I know some of you fashionistas might be thinking, “why does she have flip flops on with that?!” It’s called comfort. Sometimes comfort goes over fashion when you know you will be walking a ton.
And it was bright and colorful to match Rainbow Row 🙂 The purple house was our favorite, and when I went on Realtor.com after I got home, it’s on sale for a cool $2.8 million. A tip if you plan on getting great shots of Rainbow Row in Charleston, don’t be disappointed that you will NOT get a great shot of all of them at once. There are a ton of trees – and cars – that sit in front of all of them. Maybe unless you have a drone can you get the perfect shot. 🙂
I was on the hunt for a great cross body bag that I could wear on vacation that was big enough for what I needed, but light enough that it wouldn’t hurt my shoulder. I found it! This Henri Bendel Jetsetter Convertible Messenger is perfect! It holds my large wallet, sunglasses, phone (actually two phones because I held my daughter’s too), and more. It has the zipper pockets in the front and a large pocket on the back that’s easy to slip your phone in and out of so you can keep the main part zipped and safe.
Over spring break this year, we went on our fifth Disney Cruise. Yes, fifth. Yes, we love them. Obviously. 🙂 We went on the Fantasy again and sailed to the Western Caribbean making stops at Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island). The Fantasy and Dream are sister ships that set sail a few years ago. They are bigger than the Magic and Wonder and are just wonderful. My favorite part – the adult restaurant, Remy. I’ve been fortunate to eat at fantastic places in my life, and Remy is the #1 restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. This was also the Star Wars Day at Sea cruise, and this Star Wars family loved every minute of it!
But, this isn’t a travel blog…it’s a fashion blog. Another reason I love cruises is getting to dress up for dinner. Do you have to? No. But, it’s me. C’mon, do you think I’d really NOT dress up for dinner?! 🙂 Here’s what I wore this year.
I love Lilly Pulitzer, and this Sloane maxi (some other fun patterns here) was perfect for getting on the ship. So comfortable! Even though I’m just shy of 5’8″, I did have to get it hemmed a little so I didn’t have to wear wedges with it.
I got this on super sale last year. I knew that the cruise would be the perfect place to wear it – and I was right. (Here’s a similar style this year.) And these Schutz cage wedges I got last year in NYC have continued to be a favorite. Here’s a different version.
This Ted Baker dress I picked up two years ago for $90. This was the perfect dress for formal night! And these Michael Antonio silver shoes I got off Amazon for $23! I didn’t want to spend a fortune on silver shoes I know I wouldn’t wear very much at all! Amazon has everything 🙂 The girl is wearing a Lilly Pulitzer dress I wore on a cruise four years ago. My baby is growing up 😦
This night, we ate in Remy. When you eat in Remy, you are expected to dress appropriately. So yay for me to get to dress up again! This Halston Heritage dress had been sitting in my closet (another huge sale item) and was waiting for me to wear it. And I’ve had these DVF shoes forever…who doesn’t love a good leopard print?!
I posted about this great dress a few weeks ago. It’s on sale!
Most days were spent in a swimsuit, but this day we went out to walk around the Falmouth, Jamaica port. I got this $19 Lilly Pulitzer Rilo tube top last year. So glad I did since they didn’t come out with this style this year. The shorts were an Old Navy special! And you’ve seen these Kendra Scott pink Danielle earrings a few times this trip…they went with this top perfectly! Jack Rogers Lauren sandals are still a fav from last year.
When I saw this dress on Instagram, and it was on sale, I immediately sent the link to my hubby for Christmas. I was so happy he got it for me! This Parker dress is one of my favorites now! So simple but so beautiful. It also goes perfect with my Louboutin nude heels.
My hubby got me this Ted Baker dress last year for Mother’s Day, and I knew I wanted to wear it again on the cruise. If you are a RHOATL fan, you will recognize that Porscha wore this dress in her interviews, but I think I wore it better. LOL
I posted the Lilly Pulitzer Clara dress last year…and then I picked up this one on super sale. I just love how flowy these dresses are. Means you can eat a lot and not even notice! 🙂 Here are a few great patterns left from last year here and here. (This runs so big, you want to size down.) Oh and look, again with the Kendra Scott earrings and Schutz wedges!
If you have any Disney cruise questions, feel free to leave a comment with questions!
I absolutely love my Henri Bendel travel gear that I have collected over the years! They hold up so well and when the adorable pattern is covered by a durable vinyl…it’s a win-win in my travel book. The best part of this time of year – their great travel pieces are on sale! Here two pieces I highly recommend:
First is the Extra Large Carry All. The best feature – it hangs! I love putting this on the back of the door in a hotel room or even just hanging it from a towel rack. I can fit all of my essentials in this bad boy – travel sized shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shave gel, full bar of soap, eye cream, full sized toothpaste, toothbrush, day cream, night cream, etc… See, I’m not lying. It fits everything. And you can snag this today for $57.60!
Next is the Four Piece Cosmetic Bag. For starters, the three smaller bags fit nicely into the big one for storage purposes. I’ve found myself just using the various pieces for short trips. The striped bag is perfect for when you are just taking your essential makeup for a quick trip; it is long enough to hold your brushes, too. The smaller polka dots bags are good for your girly that-time-of-the-month products. The largest one perfectly hold my brushes and full size hair products! The sale price…$44.10!
I know it’s only July, but this is also the perfect time to start thinking about Christmas gifts. Henri Bendel has such a good sale going on right now, not just on travel goodies but their handbags, jewelry and fun accessories!
Last week, I was supposed to go up to Boston for three nights…but since they got a lovely foot of snow, my trip was cut short a night. I had never been there before, and was looking forward to looking at some of the city’s rich history. Oh, and of course shopping, too. We can’t forget that. 🙂
The hubs was there for work all week, and I joined him for his annual party. He took Friday off so we could go be tourists. In the morning, we went to the Boston Tea Party Museum, and it was great. They had actors walk you through the events leading up to and after the Boston Tea Party. I highly recommend it; definitely worth $22.
Since I was in town, I thought why not try to conquer some of the Freedom Trail. In 29 degree weather. With brisk as heck winds. Brr. Brr. Brr. Froze my arse off. But, walking some the trail led to so many great sites, plus seeing the North End. So here are some touristy shots for your viewing pleasure! Excuse the iPhone pics…needed to take quick shots!
First, boots were a must! My Frye Paige riding boots were actually very warm and comfy. Walked 4.5 miles in these bad boys. Of course I had layers, too. Button up, sweater, thick wool coat, scarf, gloves, and a hat.
We started the trail in Boston Common. First stop, the beautiful State House Building.
Then, we saw the Granary Burying Ground, which not only has Paul Revere buried there, but also Samuel Adams and John Hancock.
Here is the Old State House where they read the Declaration of Independence for the first time to the citizens of Massachusetts.
Then we saw Faneuil Hall…(do you see all of the snow?!?)
Of course we had to make a few pit stops in a couple of stores because my fingers were wicked cold! But then we pressed on because I at least wanted to see Paul Revere’s house and Old North Church. This house was built around 1680. 1680?! That is just unbelievable to me. Just thinking of what this house has been through and seen the last 333 years. Amazing.
Not too far from Old North Church is Copp’s Hill Burying Ground, the second oldest burying ground in Boston. It was covered in snow, but some of the headstones were visible. I thought the design on the tops of the headstones were so interesting. The headstone on the left has been there since 1792. I couldn’t really make out any of the writing on the one on the right.
If you want to learn more about the Freedom Trail, you can click here. I’m looking forward to going back to this town when it’s warmer, so I can walk to entire thing and take more pics when my fingers weren’t popsicles!
