Wrap dresses are perfect for so many reasons, one being they are flattering on so many body types. And who is known for wrap dresses? That’s right, Diane von Furstenberg. DVF wrap dresses have become iconic. I’ve scored a few of her wrap dresses for amazing deals, including this one I got off of Gilt. Warning for the working ladies though…I had to wear a cami under this so the ladies didn’t pop out and once I got to work I actually had to pin the bottom together. When I walked, my leg was flashing a little too much 🙂
I just love this print. Animal print is totally a new neutral! I don’t think one could ever have too much animal print.

Are y’all tired of seeing my Annie Griffin finds at the warehouse sale?! Well, good thing this is my last one 🙂 Like the Lindsay dress I talked about last week, I got this gorgeous print dress for $82. Not only is the print beautiful and colorful, it’s comfortable! Has a nice elastic around the waist in case for over eating at dinner. I’m a sucka for interesting backs, too. This one fits the bill. For this hot and humid night in Hilton Head, it kept me somewhat cool – if that was possible.
The girl was also excited she could fit into a couple of dresses at Francesca’s. I remember when I could finally shop in the junior’s section, I thought that was just awesome. I just wish she would stop growing so fast!!
I scored at the Annie Griffin Warehouse Sale a while back. And it was fitting that I got the “Lindsey” dress with my coworker Lindsey. It was meant to be 🙂
I remember trying this dress on at Poppy’s in the spring, but the price tag definitely jumped out at me. Waiting paid off because I scored this beauty for $83! Uh…yes please!
I thought this was a perfect dress for my annual beach trip to Hilton Head Island! The colors just seem so summery and beachy to me. Even though I love to dress up, I loved this trip for the fact I probably put a full face of makeup on only twice. We ate so much at the house we rented (thanks to my mom, aunt, and uncle for doing most of the cooking!).
And look – I could even jump in this dress! I love being silly with my kiddos, and I think they love it, too ❤
Oh fit and flare…how I love thee…let me count the ways. This style of dress is by far my most favorite. It flatters almost every figure, and I love the way it fits my body type. I am always drawn to the navy and green combo; it’s been a favorite of mine for a long time. So when I saw this at Nordstrom’s big sale a few weeks ago, I knew I had to try it on. It ran small, so I had to order a size up. Of course they didn’t have the larger size, so I had to order it from another store. But, I love how Nordstrom will ship it to you for free!
Thought I would pair the dress with my absolute favorite brown sandals, which I may add that I have had for six years now. They go with so much! I remember my momma buying me these for my birthday one year. What a great present that has lasted so many seasons now! Gotta love great gifts like that 🙂

When I saw this Annie Griffin Hudson Maxi dress at Poppy’s, a local Atlanta boutique, I was unsure about the Mykonos pattern. I was shopping with my coworkers and they said I had to try it on. So…I did. And I fell in love. The fabric is gorgeous – and surprisingly doesn’t even wrinkle being silk. It’s the perfect mix of colors – purples with a touch of green and orange. You know when you try something on and it’s just right? This is the dress. It was perfect to wear to a wedding last weekend.
I thought I would add in some silver touches. These Yurman pieces are special to me, as they were all gifts from my mom and dad over the years (yeah, I know…I have amazing gift-giving parents!). I love layering the different bracelets. They are such classics that I will wear forever. Nothing better than having jewelry that is timeless!
For spring break, we ventured on the high seas on the Disney Magic. This was our fourth Disney cruise, so we knew the drill. But I’m sure you can imagine what I love doing most on the cruise? Dressing up each night for dinner! If y’all haven’t noticed if you have followed by blog, I have an obsession with dresses (say it isn’t so!). Cruises are the perfect opportunity to get gussied up.
I’d thought I would put this post together because my other run down of outfits from the last cruises is my number one post of all time. Crazy! So here we go!
First night was cruise casual. It happened to also be Easter Sunday, so I thought this dress was a little Easter mixed with a little Caribbean.
Dress – Lilly Pulitzer (last season); Shoes – Charles by Charles David (old); Bracelet – Henri Bendel; Watch – Rolex; Purse – Louis Vuitton
The second night was formal night. I was so excited to wear this dress again. I first wore it in January to my work’s annual party. But this time was a whole separate look – no tights, no pumps, no necklace, and hair pulled back. It was so interesting seeing what some people thought “formal night” really was. But to each his/her own when it comes to fashion. But I’m pretty sure cargo khaki shorts and a polo shirt aren’t in the category of formal 🙂 Oh…and if you watched the RHOBH reunion show, this is the dress Kim Richards had on!
Dress – Ted Baker Jineen; Bracelets – Henri Bendel; Shoes – Ash (last season); Earrings – via Stitch Fix
On the girl – Dress by Ruby Rox at Von Maur
The next night was cruise casual again, and I couldn’t wait to wear this new Ted Baker Distinguishing Rose dress. I love everything about this dress, especially the tulip hem. It’s all in the details!
Dress – Ted Baker Distinguishing Rose; Bracelet – C. Wonder; Shoes – Charles by Charles David
I’ve had this beauty since the end of last season. I got it on super sale at the kate spade outlet store. I saw it on a blogger last year and fell in love. But, I wasn’t in love with the price tag. Good things come to those who wait! Snatched it up as I knew it would be perfect for cruising!
Dress – kate spade (last season); Bracelet – Spartina; Shoes – yep! Charles by Charles David again!
We dined in the adult-only restaurant, Palo. If you go on a Disney cruise, you must eat here. YOU MUST. (Or if you are on the Dream or Fantasy, here AND Remy’s!) It’s a little fancier, and I had yet another dress that was begging to be worn in my closet. I love the red and pink combo here!
This next night was actually semi-formal night. Well, this wasn’t what I had planned to wear, but it worked out perfectly. I love a good maxi and this one is no exception. I knew when Anthro came out with this beauty it had to be mine (insert villainous laugh here!).
Dress – Anthropologie SB by Sachin and Babi Marisol Maxi Dress; Bracelet – C. Wonder; Shoes – you guessed it…Charles by Charles David
On the girl – dress from Kohl’s IZ Amy Byer
So this pretty much sums up my evening attire. I’m saving my day outfits for separate posts, so you’ll have to come back and visit – or follow the blog! If you noticed, I wore my nude color Charles by Charles David wedges with about 75% of my dresses. I LOVE THESE SHOES! They are from a couple of season ago and need to be replaced, but I haven’t found the perfect pair yet. The leather is so scuffed at the front of the toe…I must drag my toes when I walk sometimes and not realize it.
Just remember when you are trying to figure out what to pack for a cruise: it’s really wear what you want to wear. Although in Palo or Remy, they are pretty strict (I believe guys need a jacket and women a dress, skirt or suit). It’s all about having fun! And my fun was getting dressed up!
It has been so hot here in the ATL. And when I’m hot, my clothing piece of choice is easily a dress. I love the pattern of this dress! One reason why? I love the bright yellow and black in this dress – Go Hawkeyes (University of Iowa for those of you who are not Big Ten fans)! I guess Oregon fans could like it, too, with the yellow and green 🙂
Pockets…I’m a sucker for pockets. Whomever decided to put pockets in dresses is a freakin’ genius.
Did I mention it is super fun to do girly twirls in?! ‘Cause it totally is!
And what about the thick exposed zipper? Yep. Love that, too!

The last couple of years, I’ve added a couple of Lily Pulitzer pieces to my wardrobe. Now, some of the prints are not quite my style…but there are just some adorable fabrics lately. Take for instance, this adorable print!
I went in my first Lily Pulitzer store in Key West and this dress just jumped out at me. So of course when I tried it on, I knew it had to come home with me. The cut, the length, the print were perfect. And I had a trip to Hilton Head where I knew I could wear it. Lily is perfect for the beach!
I think I need to plan another beach trip just so I can wear this dress again soon. 🙂
Dress – Lily Pulizer; Shoes – Charles by Charles David; Earrings – The Limited; Bracelets – Coach and Stella & Dot; Watch – Rolex
Last Friday I turned 34. It’s crazy how fast time goes by. When I was 24 and had my first baby, I remember thinking to myself, “Gosh, when I’m 34, she’ll be 10.”
I’m 34. And my first baby is going to be 10 in a few weeks. (insert small tears here!)
But, to me, age is just a number. I feel better now than I ever have. I’ve never been in better shape or in better tune with my body. With age comes wisdom – or at least it has in my book. One thing that has changed is my love for dresses – ha! Living in the south where it gets hot and sticky, I love wearing dresses. And I love this color of blue…that’s something that hasn’t changed. Blue is my fav.
I got this little diddy at Banana a few weeks ago. I just love everything about it – the neckline, the fit, the flare of the skirt, exposed zipper, the length. I could have put so many different colors with this dress, which makes it so versatile. I decided to wear my multi-colored wedges. I love these!
The girl wanted us to coordinate our Easter outfits, so how could I refuse?! Someday I know this will be “totally, like uncool,” as I know I would have died matching my mom when I was a teenager. So I’m referring to us as the Purple People Eaters 🙂 (Did anyone used to sing that song? We sang it in grade school all the time!)
This was an older dress I had from Anthropologie a couple of years back. Out of all my dresses, this is the only purple one I had. I couldn’t believe it! It also really made me miss my spray tan that I got a few weeks ago – welcome back, pale legs.
I just love this girl. And so glad she loves me back.
Dress – Anthropologie; Shoes – Charles David; Bracelet and Earrings – Stella & Dot
Last week, the temps in the ATL were amazing. I think I wore a skirt or dress almost every day – and even one was sleeveless! I won’t forget to mention wearing open toed shoes, too. Yahoooooooo! I took full advantage of the weather.
I love stripes. I snatched up this adorable skirt via Haute Look. Not only is it striped, but it has pockets! I love combining green and blue. It makes me happy. And your clothes should make you happy.
T-shirt – The Loft; Skirt – Nanette Lepore via Haute Look; Shoes – Charles by Charles David; Bracelet – Banana Republic; Watch – Michael Kors
Now, I know it’s the middle of September, but I’m still holding on to wearing my wedges. When it’s above 80 degrees, I think that is perfectly fine. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I wore these red wedges twice last week. I love them! I got them off of Rue La La in the spring, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn them.
I had been waiting for this dress to go on sale at J. Crew. So when I saw it was on sale PLUS another 30% off, I kind of did a small happy dance in the sale section. Shhhhh. Don’t tell anyone. I couldn’t tell if it was navy or black. But after doing the holding-it-up-to-another-black-item, my scientific experiment concluded that it was indeed black. I’ve always loved black and red together. So here’s my combo…
Then a few days later, I thought I would yet again wear red. This skirt from Banana is ridiculously comfortable. I’ve been into mixing patterns, so I thought adding the polka dot chambray with the stripes would be a good combo. And I thought a little tying of the blouse was something a little different for me. See what you think…
Outfit #1 – Dress (lighter color version here) and necklace – J. Crew; Belt – The Limited; Shoes – Charles by Charles David; Bracelets – Stella & Dot
Outfit #2 – Shirt – Forever 21; Skirt – Banana Republic; Watch – Michael Kors; Shoes – Charles by Charles David
I discovered Versona Accessories a few weekends ago. It reminds me a lot of Charming Charlie’s, but this store is closer to my house, which is an added plus. I have my fair share of statement necklaces, but once I spotted this one with different shades of mint, I was sold. And when I turned over the price tag and saw $17.99…it was a no brainer in my book.
Minty colors coordinate so well with many different types of colors. For this outfit, I wanted to pull in some other texture with the sequins. So I tried navy and mint – and I love how the combo turned out.
What are your favorite colors to pair with mint?
I used to wear blazer all the time at a previous employer. Believe it or not, they still required business dress e-v-e-r-y day. So let’s just say when I left that employer and got to dress business casual, blazers quickly moved to the back of the closet.
But, I found this bright beauty at Macy’s when I was in Chicago this summer. For a whopping $30. That’s right. Michael Michael Kors linen blazer for $30. Don’t mind if I do. It also went so well with the earrings the hubs picked up for me when he was on a business trip in NH (insert awwwwww’s here please).
Kind of a funny story about when I wore this, too. We had a new client come in that day and my “brotha from anotha motha” was in there with me – he has a keen eye for fashion as well. When we were talking about the design of their materials he goes “Well, it’s obvious that Emily isn’t afraid of color.” And everyone just laughed. But he’s right. I’m not. And I love it.
So here’s how I styled my new bright blazer…
Blazer – Michael Michael Kors; Tshirt – The Limited; Jeans – Madewell; Shoes – Charles by Charles David; Watch – Michael Kors; Necklace – Stella & Dot; Earrings – gift from the hubs
I love stripes. Love them. And yes, these are horizontal stripes. I’m tired of people saying that horizontal stripes make you look wider and larger. I would have to completely disagree. I think it really has to do with the size of the stripes. I’ve tried on horizontal striped dresses that do not look flattering. Why? Because the stripes were various widths, and the widest stripes hit right at my hips, thus making them look wider. So, that dress stayed at the store. Obviously, I don’t want to add clothes to my wardrobe that make me look wider! Who would? It’s all about learning what looks good on you.
I love this dress from Banana Republic. This zipper details are what sucked me in – besides of course it being stripes 🙂
