When I saw this print at LOFT, I could NOT pass it up. It’s such a beautiful green. The flower pattern is so girlie and subtle, yet gives it a great pop. Oh, and let’s not leave out the fact that I got it for 50% off. Score, score, and score!
I always size down in LOFT, so this is a size 4. It does NOT have any stretch, in case you were wondering, since it’s a silky material. It has two little buttons on the sleeves, which are a nice detail. This was perfect for a work meeting. Added some pearls to dress it up even more.
You guessed it, I picked this Catalyst dress up on sale at J. McLaughlin. It’s hard to pass up a classic cut dress in such a pretty print! I guess if you are a Clemson fan, this could be good for you too with the colors 🙂 They have this dress in multiple prints on sale and then your classic black and navy. I think every working woman should definitely have a classic black and navy dress in their closet. So easy to dress up or down!
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know these Christian Louboutin pumps are a staple in my closet. Seriously, this nude goes with everything. It works for me because it’s so close to my skin tone. Are Louboutins a splurge? Yes. BUT, a splurge that you get a ton of wears out of is worth it in my book.
J. McLaughlin is known for their beautiful prints and this dress is no exception. Truthfully, I didn’t love it at first, but as soon as I put it on, I thought it was gorgeous. I have another dress this similar style, and I love it. Their Catalina Cloth fabric not only feels great, but also washes so well. Even though I don’t travel a ton for work, I usually pack J. McLaughlin dresses because they don’t wrinkle! They fold and unfold perfectly.
Of course the number one reason I even eyed it? It is on sale! Over half off! This is the time of year I typically score some great J. McLaughlin pieces (as well as my hubs…they have great men’s stuff).
I can’t even remember the last time I wore a turtleneck. Maybe 2004? If you’ve never worn Lou & Grey before, you’re missing out. Not only is it super affordable, the fabrics are always super soft. Same goes for this turtleneck…which is why I thought I would give it a try. I’ve seen so many people wearing them tucked in, so why the heck not?! I paired it with these Democracy jeans, which I received in one of my latest Stitch Fixes. They are so stretchy and the perfect length for me where I didn’t even have to hem them.
Oh, and The Loft typically will carry some Lou & Grey pieces that are included in their 40% off sales they have ALL the time. I’ve scored so many pieces at ridiculously good deals.
And I’ve never been afraid of a bright lip. Like ever. If you want a matte lipstick that stays on FOREVER, pick up Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick. I’m not joking. This will stay on ALL day and you’ll even have remnants the next morning. It goes on like a gloss, but then dries matte in probably 30 seconds. Highly recommend!
Turtleneck – Lou & Grey (at their site or Nordstrom); Jeans – Democracy “Ab”Solution Itty Bitty Boot; Lipstick – Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in Fiery Red; Earrings – silver shop in Cozumel; Booties – old Frye; Belt – old C Wonder
First, thank you to some of you who have asked if I was ok…I definitely am! I took a break from blogging to concentrate on spending time with my family, and then before I knew it, I was in deep to my busy season at work.
So what has Em been up to? A lot. Since my last post in May, I had a child move up to high school and my youngest move out of grade school to middle school. We went to my favorite city, Chicago, and went on a family adventure to Alaska via the Norwegian Bliss. We took our annual trip over to Hilton Head Island and enjoyed every second being in Palmetto Dunes.
This whole year has been a journey of health and wellness for me as well. In January, I decided to rejoin a FASTer Way to Fat Loss® group to get myself back on track. After that one round, I joined the VIP group and haven’t looked back. Not only that, I’ve decided to be come a FWTFL coach – and now am certified!! I will talk more about the program a lot, but click here to learn more. And even join me on my first round I’m coaching starting January 7! Doesn’t matter if you are a woman or a man or where you live. It’s an online program that provides the accountability you need coupled with the resources and tools you need to be successful at losing fat and keeping it off. This program has changed my life (and my husband’s – he loves the FWTFL lifestyle!), so I want to share it with everyone.
For now, here’s a few of my favorite pictures over the last few months!
If you’re interested in following me on Instagram, search for me at emd03! Instastories are my favorite!!
And of course what would be a post without a few fashion items…
- The Patagonia rain jacket I wore in Alaska not only repels water, but cuts the wind like no one’s business.
- The best nude colored suede booties seen in the last two pics are from Altar’d State. They seriously go with everything and are very comfortable!
- When we were in Amsterdam, I splurged on Yves Saint Laurent Tribute sandals. I didn’t get the sky high heels, so my feet thanked me.
- And if you want to wear jeans that never lose their shape, high waist, and comfortable ALL DAY, grab these Athleta jeans NOW!
I’m a sucker for feminine Ted Baker dresses, there’s no doubt about that. I’m even more of a sucker for them when I’m in Amsterdam at the Ted Baker store who’s having a sale, the price is lower in Euros to begin with, and I can get tax back. I absolutely love the color combination and details of this dress.
For work, I am always looking for good long sleeve dresses because most offices are freezing! There’s nothing worse than sitting in a two-hour meeting literally shaking because you are so cold. The fabric of this dress has a nice weight to it too, which is an added benefit.
As a side note…I always appreciate everyone visiting the blog and hopefully getting some fashion inspiration. To those who have left negative comments, just stop. It’s unnecessary, and it’s hurtful. This blog is here for fun and inspiration for women…nothing more.
Finally got to wear this adorable dress when I had a client meeting…and I bought it the beginning of last summer on sale. It’s Ted Baker. Every TB dress I own, I always feel so confident and this one is no exception. The soft fabric, the feminine fit, the cute details. It all just works. And who doesn’t want another staple black dress in their closet?!
Dress – Ted Baker London Embroidered Collar Fit & Flare (here on super sale in pink); Shoes – Christian Louboutin Simple Pump; Earrings and Ring – Lagos (similar ring); Bracelet – Handmade with antique Chanel button
It’s been a chilly winter here in the ATL. I’ve worn more sweaters this year than the last two winters combined. I guess it’s a good excuse to wear this adorable sweater dress though, right? I’m not a huge bell sleeve fan, but I can handle that they aren’t overly huge on this Eliza J dress. (Bummer it’s sold out, but this grey one is almost identical!) I like that the sleeves hit at my wrists instead of going any longer.
I’ve tried to wear these over-the-knee Vince Camuto Madolee boots as much as possible. They are actually comfortable, probably due to the lower heel and the chunkier width of the heel as well. I got these last summer during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale – yes, that long ago! – and now they are over $100 off of the retail price. If you have been eyeing these, I do recommend them. Just a few things to note: 1. My calf is about 15″ and these are a perfect fit. They get too tight if I try to wear skinnies with them, so I stick with leggings. 2. Size up. I always wear an 8.5, and a bunch of bloggers said to size up a half size and I’m so glad I listened. 3. These are the Foxy color, which look SO different on Nordstrom’s website. They look brown on the site and you can see they are more of a gray.
Wow, you know you haven’t blogged in a long time when you still aren’t logged into WordPress 🙂 It’s been a while, but life has been busy and I’ve enjoyed spending so much time with my family – and of course the occasional shopping trip!
One of my great friends loves vests. I mean loves them…we call it part of her uniform. And she’s started rubbing off on me. They are so great to have when it’s not too cold enough to have a coat but not quite warm enough just to have a shirt on. I snatched up this Loft Puffer Vest a few weeks ago when they were having 70% off online. Uh, yes please! Couldn’t resist the soft pink color. Typically I size down at the Loft, but I ordered a medium to make sure it was roomy enough to have a shirt or sweater underneath. It fits great – and is the softest fabric. Highly recommend.
I’ve also started quite the collection of fashionable sneakers. I follow Loverly Grey on Instagram. She’s the cutest thing and a native Atlanta suburb girl. She had these adidas Edge Luxe shoe on and was raving about them, so I decided to give them a try. SO glad I did. They really are super comfortable. And can we talk about the laces for a second? Too cute. When I wore them to work, I think I got about 10 compliments on them. (Can I mention I love an office where I can wear this cute outfit?!)
Vest – The Loft Puffer Vest; Shirt – Banana Republic; Jeans – Pilcro and The Letterpress (similar and on sale); Sneakers – Adidas Edge Luxe Running Shoe; Bracelet – John Hardy Modern Chain 8 mm; Watch – Apple Series 3; Necklace – Tiffany (old)
I’ve almost survived my busy season at work…only a couple more weeks to go. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. While working non-stop, I can’t tell you how much I’ve had these jeans and booties on repeat. I purchased them during the Nordstrom sale during the summer, and they were definitely A+ purchases.
I didn’t realize how much in my closet goes with this dark gray color of the Vince Camuto Karinta block heeled bootie. And since I’ve worn them so much, I can tell you with confidence that these are actually comfortable. They have a good amount of padding in the ball of the foot and with the thick block heel, I don’t have any heel pain at the end of the day (I tend to put my weight in my heels).
AG is one of my favorite brands, so I knew I would love these jeans. I have to say I listened to a blogger who tried them on and said to size up, and I probably should have ordered my typical size. Granted, yes, they are super skinny jeans and are snug when you first put them on, but they do stretch out while you wear them. I love the distressed hem on these…it’s even subtle enough for my casual office.
What’s also great about this post? These two items are on sale back to what they were during the Nordstrom sale this summer! So maybe it’s good I waited to share this post with you anyway 🙂 Happy shopping!
First, I want to say that I’m here. I’m just fine. 🙂 My full-time career is managing employee benefit communications for clients, and this is the busiest time of year for me. So my time has to be devoted to my clients and less to my blog. So the next few months, posts will definitely be sporadic. So bear with me (and thank you for caring!).
Labor Day weekend we did get away for a few days to Ft. Walton Beach in Florida. Of course I had purchased a few things online at Lilly’s huge sale, but I went to the store in Mirmar Beach to see what they had left. I picked up this great skirt for about $35. I would much rather throw on a skirt or dress than shorts, so this is perfect for me. Cotton and comfy – so easy to throw on with just a white t-shirt! And look, I can even jump in it, LOL.
The girl got a few things at the sale too, including these super cute shorts and tank top. She loves her Lilly just like her momma! ❤ This shot is something we always try to do at the beach. I think we started it when she was probably 7 or so. I love taking photos like this so you can go back and compare how she’s growing up.
When I’m on vacation, I always like to pack items that I can just throw on and go. This Lilly Pulitzer Gigi Maxi was perfect for just that. Threw it on, added a hat, and voila – off we went. It is machine washable and has adjustable straps…and you can see it is full of color! Lots and lots of bright colors. But that’s one of the reasons I love it. I’m sure if you have followed me at all, you know what I’m going to say next. Yep. I got it on sale when I was in Charleston. 63 big smackers is all! Score!
I ventured into the mirrored sunglasses this summer too. I love these green Ray Bans. I think they are such a fun color!
In the first picture, that is one of our favorite horses to go and visit when we are in Hilton Head. Harley has lived at Lawton Stables for such a long time. If I remember correctly, he is actually a reject Budweiser Clydesdale because his coloring wasn’t what they wanted (crazy, right?!). When we take him carrots, we try to give a few to the ponies out there too, and he can be such a big bully. So we distract him so the ponies can get a few carrots too 🙂 We’ve seen the stables change so much over the years. It’s such a great facility. When my kiddos were little, they loved to go on pony rides. I was so sad when they were too big to get on the ponies. Check it out if you are ever on the island.
When I was in Hilton Head and saw this adorable fringed cover up on sale for $59, I just had to pick it up. It’s such a fun print, and who could resist the fringe?! It’s nice and light weight for those humid and hot days at the beach or pool.
The hubs and I went on a getaway weekend to one of our favorite spots, Highlands, NC. Our favorite spot to stay was purchased by Old Edwards Hospitality and they did a lot of work on it this past winter and spring. The Half-Mile Farm looked just gorgeous, including their updated pool. Two of our favorite parts they didn’t change: gourmet breakfast is included and so are wine and appetizers each night. We like to workout while we are on vacation, and it’s so nice to now have access to the Old Edwards Inn’s workout facility that is in town. It’s only a few minute drive, so no excuse not to use it. Highly recommend this place if you need a little break!
I discovered Jude Connally a few years ago in a local ATL boutique. I instantly fell in love with the fabric. It never wrinkles…and it’s machine washable. Such great pieces for traveling. I was lucky to find this Joy Off-the-Shoulder dress on sale this summer before I headed out to Hilton Head! It was such a great dress for the beach. You can also wear this dress with the sleeves pulled up.
If you wear them up though, be forewarned it makes the dress a lot shorter 🙂 It does look super cute this way too though. It would look super cute with wedges like the model has on, but I opted for an easy Jack Rogers Maci flat since I knew I would be walking around shopping. Can I also brag I got these on sale for almost 50% off?! I may like to shop, but I try and watch the dollar amount ALL the time. I love getting good deals if you haven’t noticed.
In the background, you’ll noticed the Salty Dog macaws they always have at their store in South Beach. These macaws have been there ever since I’ve been going there, which has been since the year 2000. We do a picture in front of these birds every single year. It’s so fun to go back and see how we’ve all changed over the years. But the birds have stayed the same. Ha!
Vacation to the beach = wearing Lilly Pulitzer! I picked up this adorable Kassia dress on sale when I was in Charleston this summer. I just love all of the bright colors. You definitely wouldn’t lose me if I was in the dark. You also can’t be afraid of color to wear this Playa Hermosa print 🙂 It’s super light weight and perfect for humid and hot weather. If you couldn’t tell, this was also at the beginning of our Hilton Head vacation when my spray tan looked fab! I always love how I leave for vacation tanner than when I come home. Beauty of a fake tan!
Dress – Lilly Pulitzer Kassia Playa Hermosa; Wedges – Schutz (last year, but similar as an espadrille); Earrings – Kendra Scott Danielle; Bracelets – Henri Bendel (last year); Tory Burch Fitbit Flex holder
I heart J. McLaughlin’s dresses. And this Kasia Rouched Dress is no exception. I packed this in a suitcase to go to a conference, and it had zero wrinkles when I unpacked it! You’ve got to love fabrics like that. Not to mention it’s ridiculously comfortable. Oh, and did I mention it’s on sale for $84?! Originally $205?! Now that’s a fantastic deal, people. These dresses wash so well and are totally worth a few extra dollars. Ok, maybe not the $205, but definitely the $84 🙂 J. McLaughlin is having a fantastic sale right now with an EXTRA 40% off. Check it out here.
Jersey material is a fav of mine. For starters, it doesn’t wrinkle which means I don’t have to iron or steam it. But I also love the way it hangs and hugs. Add a faux wrap to the dress design, and it’s such a great combo in my book. The hubs actually bought this dress for me, which I love when he picks out things he thinks I would look great in. This Hale Bob dress has the fun color combination the brand is known for. I love the deep maroon, lime green, blue, and taupe. They all work so well together.
Typically this type of blouse is not something I would pick up, but I loved the beautiful print. And I think the fluted sleeves are so much fun. There are so many colors that would go with this top. I have had this great J. Crew No. 2 pencil skirt forever, but I tried a light purple on with it too and it looked pretty. The Banana Republic website has a white skirt with it, but if you’ve followed me at all, y’all know I much rather prefer color over neutrals. This top is on sale right now, so don’t miss out on a great deal!
I’m always on the lookout for new jeans that are comfortable, flattering, and stretchy. I popped into a new store the other day and discovered the jean brand Agolde. White jeans are always tough to find for me, so I thought, why not. Let’s try these on and see what they are like.
The first thing I look for when I try on white jeans is to see if they are anywhere near see through. These are NOT. Then, I look at the hip and thigh area to see if any flaws show through. NOPE. These are thick enough when they suck you in and hide any flaws…kind of like a legging. Lastly, stretch. These have a great amount of stretch, and the best part? They don’t lose their shape when you wear them all day.
I highly recommend these Agolde Sophie High Rise jeans! I may just have to pick up a blue wash for the winter time 😉
When I saw this jumpsuit on the hanger, I first thought it was a maxi dress. As I was feeling the fabric and pulling it apart, I discovered it was definitely not a maxi! I usually don’t gravitate towards jumpsuits, but I loved this print!
When I tried this on, it felt like I was in the most comfortable pajamas. I knew I wanted to take this to Charleston, so I did.
It was hot that day, and this was the perfect outfit to keep me cool while we walked around town. I know some of you fashionistas might be thinking, “why does she have flip flops on with that?!” It’s called comfort. Sometimes comfort goes over fashion when you know you will be walking a ton.
And it was bright and colorful to match Rainbow Row 🙂 The purple house was our favorite, and when I went on Realtor.com after I got home, it’s on sale for a cool $2.8 million. A tip if you plan on getting great shots of Rainbow Row in Charleston, don’t be disappointed that you will NOT get a great shot of all of them at once. There are a ton of trees – and cars – that sit in front of all of them. Maybe unless you have a drone can you get the perfect shot. 🙂
I was on the hunt for a great cross body bag that I could wear on vacation that was big enough for what I needed, but light enough that it wouldn’t hurt my shoulder. I found it! This Henri Bendel Jetsetter Convertible Messenger is perfect! It holds my large wallet, sunglasses, phone (actually two phones because I held my daughter’s too), and more. It has the zipper pockets in the front and a large pocket on the back that’s easy to slip your phone in and out of so you can keep the main part zipped and safe.
